Million-euro investment in Parto: BBA provided ideas and capital

Hamburg-based Parto Group GmbH has completed its pre-seed financing round of 2.5 million euros. The impact fintech start-up is developing a payment solution for companies in the social economy. The solution, which is specially tailored to the needs of care facilities and their residents, minimises the administrative workload of care facilities and helps their residents to achieve greater autonomy and thus a higher quality of life. Payment cards take the place of cash payments to care home residents.

Cooperation or confrontation? At the Baltic Business Angels Masterclass 2024, we discussed joint VC and angel investments

In November, we traditionally meet for the end-of-year event: the masterclass followed by a matching event. In 2024, we focussed on the trio of business angels, venture capitalists and founders. We discussed this with representatives of the three groups, gained exciting insights from the German Private Equity and Venture Capital Association in Berlin and learnt about the pitfalls in negotiations between angels and start-ups.

On 27 August 2024, the third BBA Matching Event of the year took place at the W8 Media Centre in Kiel, the former premises of Achterbahn-Verlag, which printed the WERNER comics. Business angels, people interested in networking and start-ups met in bright sunshine to present and discuss innovative ideas and exciting business concepts.

WHO WE ARE

The Baltic Business Angels Schleswig-Holstein e.V. combines, for the first time, entrepreneurs in Schleswig-Holstein who want to support start-ups with capital and know-how.

The association's aim is to bring together start-ups and business angels in order to firmly establish Schleswig-Holstein on the map of founders of Germany. The Baltic Business Angels network is to leverage the already good conditions, and entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial spirit and start-up culture in the most northern part of Germany are to be further strengthened.

We offer support and partnership to founders on their journey of establishing the business or managing the upcoming growth.

Baltic Business Angels e.V. was founded in 2018 by experienced entrepreneurs and investors and on the initiative of WTSH - Wirtschaftsförderung und Technologietransfer Schleswig-Holstein GmbH to offer private investors and innovative startups a network where bright minds meet fresh capital. Under the patronage of Economics Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen, the association gathers in its ranks individuals who are willing to contribute their private capital to the realization of innovative projects in Schleswig-Holstein and to the strengthening of innovative companies in their early stages. In addition to the financial commitment, experience, personal support, confidentiality and expert and network knowledge are also essential components of the cooperation. In return, the investor benefits from the economic success of the young company.

Julian von Hassell

First Chairman

Julian has been involved with the German start-up and venture capital scene as a serial entrepreneur, investor and business angel since 2003. He focuses on helping selected early-stage start-ups and their founders to turn ambitions into reality. Investments are mostly made in early-stage B2B technology companies that show initial success. Julian’s focus is currently on industrial IoT, data analytics, B2B platform tools, e-health and 3D. He favours SpinOffs from research foundations, research organisations or technical universities, but is also open to other opportunities. Claas started his career in the old economy at „AEG and Electrolux Group“ where he discovered his passion for emerging industries. This is what drives him to this day. After being on Wall Street at „American Heritage Management Corp.“ and participating in the first internet-based IPOs in the 1990s, his passion for engineering and disruptive technologies grew stronger.

He is co-founder of „New Commercial Room“, a VC firm based in Hamburg, with which he manages a portfolio of high-tech growth companies ranging from medical devices and media to SaaS, IT and cybersecurity. As an angel investor, he invested in companies both privately and with the „btov Investor-Network“. He actively supports numerous German start-ups, accelerator programmes and is a scout for the „High-Tech Gründerfonds“ (HTGF) in the northern part of Germany. This gives him access to first-class international deal flow and investors. Claas also holds several supervisory board positions and is a live musician with the „Soul Lounge Connection“.
