THE BBA AS PART OF THE STARTUP STATE OF SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN

Schleswig-Holstein has moved up in the KfW Monitor's state rankings from 10th place to 3rd place in the number of start-ups prepared for the future. This is also thanks to the StartUp SH association, which also includes the Baltic Business Angels. A few voices on this in the video (German). The BBA-supported startups bareways and IO-Dynamics are also present.

Million-euro investment in Parto: BBA provided ideas and capital

Hamburg-based Parto Group GmbH has completed its pre-seed financing round of 2.5 million euros. The impact fintech start-up is developing a payment solution for companies in the social economy. The solution, which is specially tailored to the needs of care facilities and their residents, minimises the administrative workload of care facilities and helps their residents to achieve greater autonomy and thus a higher quality of life. Payment cards take the place of cash payments to care home residents.

Wallaby Boats delivers first vessel

Specialised vessels for technical personnel to be able to transfer to offshore facilities in rough seas – that was Wallaby Boats‘ plan. Rappelling from a helicopter is expensive and difficult, and a transfer by ship fails if the swell is too high. However, the „Wallaby 18“ model can safely overcome waves up to 3 metres high thanks to a special suspension system.

Business angel investments in start-ups decline significantly

Our member survey reflects a difficult investment climate for business angels and start-ups across Germany. At the Business Angel Community Summit in Wiesbaden on September 13 and 14, the measures taken by the federal government were welcomed. However, the majority of the most active business angels in particular do not consider them to be sufficient.

BAND DemoDay: Female Investing and Female Founders

Our board member Norma Jensen participated in the panel discussion at the DemoDay of Business Angels Deutschland (BAND). The event focused on the „Women Angels Mission ’25“ campaign launched by BAND, which the BBA has supported since its inception. The goal is to increase the share of female business angels to 25 % by 2025. 

BBA SH @ Waterkant Festival 2023

Since the premiere, the BBA have been present at the Waterkant Festival in Kiel and so we were also there on both days in 2023 to provide insights into the BBA network and tips for founders, but also to take away new impulses, get to know promising startups and meet numerous like-minded people.

Guest at the European Business Angels Network

The BBA want to continue to position themselves internationally and are therefore establishing contacts with other European networks. So our CEO Julian von Hassell took part in the EBAN’s annual general event.

Norma Jensen is newly elected BBA board member

The predominantly Schleswig-Holstein private investors of technology startups organized in our network unanimously elected Kiel-based entrepreneur Norma Jensen as Commercial Officer to the Board of Directors at our Annual General Meeting on April 05, 2023.

BBA again participates in the Industrial-AI-StartUp PANDA

Hamburg-based startup PANDA GmbH, which specializes in enabling industrial factory floors for artificial intelligence (AI) applications, reports the successful completion of a financing round of around half a million EUR. The main operating site will be relocated to Schleswig-Holstein.

Claus Ruhe Madsen

Claus Ruhe Madsen ist seit dem 29. Juni 2022 Minister für Wirtschaft, Verkehr, Arbeit, Technologie und Tourismus. Er wurde am 27. August 1972 in Kopenhagen geboren, ist verheiratet und hat eine Tochter.

Claas begann seine Karriere in der Old Economy bei „AEG und Electrolux Group“, wo er seine Leidenschaft für aufstrebende Industrien entdeckte. Das ist es, was ihn bis heute antreibt. Nachdem er bei „American Heritage Management Corp.“ an der Wall Street war und in den 1990er Jahren an den ersten internetbasierten Börsengängen teilnahm, wurde seine Leidenschaft für Technik und disruptive Technologien immer stärker. Er ist Mitgründer von „New Commercial Room“, einem VC-Unternehmen mit Sitz in Hamburg, mit dem er ein Portfolio von High-Tech-Wachstumsunternehmen verwaltet, das von medizinischen Geräten über Medien bis hin zu SaaS, IT und Cybersecurity reicht. Als Angel Investor investierte er sowohl privat in Unternehmen als auch mit dem „btov Investor-Network“. Er betreut aktiv zahlreiche deutsche StartUps, Accelerator-Programme und ist Scout im Norden für den „High-Tech Gründerfonds“ (HTGF). Dadurch hat er Zugang zu erstklassigem internationalen Deal Flow und Investoren. Darüber hinaus hat Claas mehrere Aufsichtsratspositionen inne und ist Live-Musiker mit der „Soul Lounge Connection“.

Julian von Hassell

1. Chairman

Julian beschäftigt sich als Serial Entrepreneur, Investor und Business Angel seit 2003 mit der deutschen StartUp- und Venture Capital-Szene. Dabei konzentriert er sich darauf, ausgewählten frühphasigen StartUps und ihren Gründerinnen und Gründern dabei zu helfen, Ambitionen in die Tat umzusetzen. Investiert wird meist in frühphasige B2B-Technologie-unternehmen mit erstem Track Record. Julian‘s Fokus liegt zurzeit auf Industrial IoT, Data Analytics, b2b-Plattform-Tools, e-Health und 3D. Er liebt SpinOffs, die aus Forschungsstiftungen und -organisationen oder technischen Hochschulen stammen, ist aber auch für andere Möglichkeiten offen.
